As a photographer, I needed permission to take pictures in advance. Everything was very well organised. The boat crew was fantastic and got us close to the whales quickly but without stress. Unfortunately, we also saw many boats heading straight for the whales, people jumping straight into the water and diving off the whales. In the context of sustainable tourism, we hope that this behaviour will stop soon. It simply requires a certain understanding for whales, which our crew conveyed.

We booked a 2 week trip with Cross Country Travels and had a private vehicle and driver for the entire trip. Our driver, Kalana, was the best! He was super professional, helpful, friendly and a very safe driver. He would tell us lots of information about things we saw during our drives across Sri Lanka, he was always on time picking us up, knew exactly where we were going and got us to where we needed to go. One time we were running late to a musical event because of traffic and he was able to navigate through traffic safely and down local streets in order to get us to our destination right on time, we were so grateful! The vehicles we had were always clean, air conditioned and well-maintained.
