Somawathiya National Park & Viharaya Day Tour 🌿🐘

Looking for an off-the-beaten-path adventure in Sri Lanka? Join our Somawathiya National Park & Viharaya day tour—a journey that blends rugged wilderness, rural life, and deep spiritual heritage.

Departing from Trincomalee, you’ll travel through Mavil Aru and the Somawathiya floodplains by jeep—and sometimes by tractor—crossing rustic trails where nature and culture meet. Along the way, you’ll encounter majestic wild elephants, herds of deer, and colorful flocks of birds soaring above the untouched landscapes.

At the heart of the park lies the Somawathi Temple (Somawathiya Viharaya), a sacred Buddhist site with origins dating back to 250 BC. Built by Prince Abhaya for Princess Somawathi, and later entrusted to Arahat Mahinda—the son of Emperor Asoka who brought the Sacred Tooth Relic of the Buddha—this temple remains one of the most revered spiritual landmarks in Sri Lanka.

This tour is perfect for those seeking wildlife encounters, scenic beauty, and cultural depth, all in one unforgettable day.
